From: Todd Sherman/KB4MHH To: Pablo Santos - NWS-JAX Cc: Fred Johnson/KF4LIY - NWS-JAX Subject: Late reports from 5/14 hail day... Date: Tuesday, May 16, 2000 These reports should have been reported to NWS-JAX but apparently weren't, as I think they were reported only to Alachua Co. Emergency Management by the NCS who took over after me (I had to leave). I know you still like to keep records of them tho, for possible later research and stuff. Dunno if they can still be added to the LSRs or not, now; but, for the info, anyway... 0512 PM GAINESVILLE FL .5-INCH HAIL REPORTED BY STORM SPOTTER 05/14/00 ALACHUA AT TURKEY CREEK FOREST SUBDIVISION, TWO MILES NORTH OF FHP STATION ON US-441. 0512 TO GAINESVILLE FL .5-INCH TO 2.5-INCH HAIL COVERED GROUND 0521 PM ALACHUA AT WHITNEY MOBILE HOME PARK, TWO MILES 05/14/00 NORTH OF FHP STATION ON US-441. Of course, many of us now have saved souvenier samples of our own hail stones sitting in the freezer. 8^) Jeff/W4UFL has samples ranging from 1/2-inch to an inch. And myself, I documented my own experience with digital photos as well as video, and saved samples ranging in size from half-inch to slightly over 2 inches. My car suffered 4 minor dings on the hood, and 4 more on the trunk lid. [And only one very small tear in one window screen. -Todd] Was a pretty impressive hail day. Gave us something to talk about weather-wise, for once ... other than this boring, dreaded heat and drought. (Fred, next time you come down to do a class I'll show you the video of my mobile home being ka-pounded. 8^) Got any more of this coming? We're ready! Bring it on! That was fun as all hell! Want more!) 8^) Todd ----------------------------------------------- Todd L. Sherman/KB4MHH Coordinator, Alachua Co.
