A test Non-Weather Emergency Message is scheduled for distribution by the Seminole County Emergency Management Office on Wednesday October 14 2020. The purpose of the test is to demonstrate the capability to publicly distribute emergency messages using interconnected systems in Seminole County Emergency Management, the National Weather Service (NWS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In the event the test is postponed from October 14 2020, a Public Information Statement will be issued to announce the postponement and rescheduling to a later date. On Wednesday October 14 2020, around 10:30 AM EDT, the NWS HazCollect system will send the test non-weather related emergency text product from the Seminole County Emergency Management Office with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) heading: WOUS42 and AWIPS Identifier: DMOMLB Details of the test message are as follows... Please prepare for transmission of the test message on Wednesday October 14 2020. The test is scheduled for around 10:30 am EDT, but will be postponed if there is forecast or occurrence of severe weather or if there is a non-weather emergency in the area. The test message will be sent as product category DMO, Practice/Demo Warning, to minimize impact on users. There is no reason for concern if you do not receive the test message. The non-weather emergency message used in this test will broadcast NOAA Weather Radio Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) tones for the category DMO Practice/Demo Warning. Most weather radio and public alert receivers are designed not to alert for the DMO Practice/Demo Warning. Check your receivers user manual for details. The message will clearly indicate it is a test. The message should be received and noted in station logs at Emergency Alert System (EAS) stations but should not be broadcast over the air. The following is a sample non-weather emergency message similar to what will be used in the test. The message will have WMO header WOUS42 KMLB, AWIPS Identifier DMOMLB and Universal Geographic Code FLC117.
