Winds become light and variable on Thursday as high pressure moves overhead, then turn southerly Friday around 10 mph. With the high moving overhead Thursday, expect variable transport winds as well. Light east and northeast winds and transport winds in the morning flip and become south and southwesterly in the afternoon across the Panhandle and southeast Alabama. Further east across southern Georgia and the Florida Big Bend, light south and southwesterly winds and transport winds likely won't develop until Thursday evening at the earliest. The lighter winds and lower mixing heights will lead to poor dispersions both Thursday and Friday for much of the area. A strong cold front blasts through the area Friday, bringing very strong winds and lower humidity as well as bitterly cold temperatures for the weekend. The cold temperatures should limit fire weather concerns, but pockets of critically low RH around 25 to 30% combined with 15 to 25 mph sustained winds (gusts to 30 or 35 mph) in unsheltered regions could lead to localized elevated fire weather concerns on Saturday afternoon.
