After taking a reprieve for many districts on Wednesday, afternoon thunderstorms will return to more areas today and Friday. This will pose the risk of erratic and gusty winds near storms, plus lightning. Storms will nearly disappear on Saturday and Sunday, as a sprawling heat wave high develops over the Southeast States. The heat wave high will loosen its grip across our region starting late Monday, bringing the next resurgence in gusty thunderstorms. Otherwise, that heat wave high will boost temperatures to about 5 degrees above normal from Saturday through Monday, setting up major heat risk for those working outdoors.
