12/13/2001: Moved some documents that were here to the "Miscellaneous" folder - such as the Glasgow Bakery Business Card. The move was so that I could reserve this particular directory for documents which actually tended to prove, or help prove, the existence of our ancestors.

CONTENTS:

  1. Cemetery Records
  2. Certificates, Registries & Records - Birth/Baptism/Marr./Death
  3. Family Registers
  4. Internment Cards
  5. Newspaper Clippings - Notices of Birth, Marr., Death, etc.
  6. Wills & Probate
  7. Other

To make things easier in sorting, and to prevent confusing people and making them think that there are more people than there are, I am sorting women by their pre-marital surnames.

Cemetery Records:

  • GREGORY/TOLMIE Plot - Info from Muriel's Notes (photocopy)
Fairmount Cemetery - Newark, NJ - Muriel's Notes. [From Muriel's collection]

  • SMITH, John & Anne - Plot Registry (photocopy)
St. Andrews Parish Church - Bebington.
One of these days, I'm going to have to get in touch with the St. Andrew's Church in Bebington and advise them of the correct date for Susan Powell Scott's death. Obviously, when the scribe wrote down what he could see off of her sandstone gravestone, it must have been extremely weathered and difficult to read, and incorrect dates thus written into the permanent record. The internment card for Sarah Powell Scott in our possession (see, herein) is a real, tangible document, handed out to the funeral attendees at the time, which contains the actual dates, and is something which I'm sure they would appreciate knowing about. If I can find a web page for St. Andrew's Parish Church, and an e-mail address, then I'll send them a scan of it. Or, if I ever get off my big, fat, lazy butt, I'll snail-mail them a nice quality scan of the document. Obtained for me by Dave Burton, during a 1996 trip there.

Internment Cards:

  • TOLMIE, Beatrice Ann `Aunt Bea' - Internment Card (original)
Wife of George Ernest FISHER TOLMIE (son of Robert TOLMIE, Jr.) From Muriel's collection. (Anybody know Aunt Bea's maiden surname?)
  • SCOTT, Susan Powell - Internment Card (front)
This is a beautiful and intricate piece of work. Sarah was Ann SMITH's sister...according to the description written upon the back. (Ann was Lydia SMITH's mother.) HOWEVER, the card is actually kinda confusing. I assumed that the handwriting on the back was that of Muriel (GREGORY) STERNER, Anne TOLMIE's daughter. It LOOKS just like it. But go read the card again, carefully. Who does it say the father of Sarah is? If she's Lydia SMITH's sister ("Grammy Smith"), how come her father is a CLARK? Now examine Lydia (SMITH) TOLMIE's death certificate. Note that her daughter wrote that Lydia's mother was Ann POWELL. Think about this a second. Okay. Confused, now? Good. So am I. NOW see the Registry of Death for John & Ann SMITH at the St. Andrews Church in Bebington. A CLUE! To be an "aunt," Sarah must be Ann's sister. So "Grammy Smith" must be ANN, wife of JOHN SMITH, and NOT Lydia Smith. This indicates Anne TOLMIE wrote what is on the back of the card, and not Muriel GREGORY, as I had originally thought. So Sarah was ANN Smith's sister. Okay. That's cleared up. Still doesn't answer why Ann has the maiden surname POWELL while her supposed "sister" Sarah can be daughter of a CLARK. Somebody please explain things to me, here. Are we talking about a second marriage, here? and would Sarah be Ann's STEP-sister, perhaps? [From Muriel's collection] [Updated 01/16/2002]
  • SCOTT, Susan Powell - Internment Card (back)
Same. Back of card, showing `Grammy SMITH's sister' in Muriel (GREGORY) STERNER's handwriting. [Updated 12/23/2001]

Got a family photo, document, postcard or similar that you think is important and that you would like to share with the family? Attach a scan of it to an e-mail and send it to me (below), or ask me for my mailing address and I'll send it by e-mail. (I'd put it up here, but with all the Internet "autobots" around that hunt around and swipe things like that off of web pages for spam purposes, now, I'd rather not give them that opportunity. So, I'll just send it by e-mail on request, instead.) All rights to your image will remain with you and, if you wish, I'll even add paint a copyright notice at the base of the image for you to protect your family's rights to it (if none already exists on it, that is).
